threatened by fellow animals
humans are animals, no matter how you put it. the major thing that separates human beings from other animals is the fact that we have well developed brains and emotions. humans are able to experience anger, compassion, and happiness, among many others. but how is it that we allow the planet, the planet that gave us life and all the natural resources we so deeply depend on, to suffer to such a great extent? how is it that we allow for some species of animals to become almost nonexistent? how is it that the band of compassion barely extends beyond ourselves? how is it that when we don’t receive the 52” flat screen TV for Christmas we become upset, but when our atmosphere becomes threatened, forests destroyed, oceans polluted and fellow animals suffer, we aren’t even troubled?

strange substances
shot to death with insults and greed
brains spill from the skull & vultures feed
swallowing your thoughts & memories
washed down with fresh blood
blind from the dark
torn from the soul
beyond the point of no return
absorbed by the black hole

Third World conditions in Canada? How can this be..? How could somthing like this have happened in such a properous country? Is there someone to blame? What should be done now...? Atleast the Harper Government sent up some donuts to soothe the pain
When will I learn? Trying to grasp the lessons in life.
If I could only see into the future, If I could only alter the past.
If I could only reach my high everyday, If I could only avoid my low.
Guided by the moon, vomit absurdities, repulsed not by my appearance, not by my soul, but my inability to control my thoughts & dance.
I am star dust, a particle in the universe, dust of the universe, acting on instinct, speaking on feelings.
Stepping into the sun, the honest & ever loving sun.

stuck
It’s nothing less than a pleasure to have weekends off from work; however, hosting a head cold for the entire three days is the exact opposite. Fuck. There isn’t really much one can do to end the effects of the common cold but to sleep, sip tea, get fresh air & wash medicine down a sore throat with litres of orange juice. While accomplishing the fresh outdoors aspect of my remedy, I suddenly found myself in worse shape than when I left the house. I was walking down the path, left right left right; I’m 22 years old & figured I had mastered the art of walking. The shoe lace of my boot got caught up in the lace hook of my other boot & I tripped over my own feet. Since my feet were stuck together there was no way to smoothly save this one, I put my hands out in front of me as I slammed to the pavement & my skin ripped as it skid across the asphalt. My knees & wounds covered in little bits of sand & dust; my shoe lace ripped; I cried.

the ivory style
One of the most disturbing images I’ve seen in a while...These images are burned into my memory; images that follow me during the day & strangle my dreams at night. Baby seals clubbed for their fur, sharks mutilated for their fins, elephants defaced over ivory & millions of other species, slaughtered & skinned, everyday.
This malicious appetite, this elusive hunger, this disgusting obsession with animal furs, skins & so called precious gems. Even with the ability to reproduce & mimic leopard prints, snake skin patterns & other natural products, people are still infatuated with the real blood. They go crazy over the brands, the blood, the kill, the money, the materialistic bullshit that has somehow become such an important part of life.
Can you put a price on life?
"The horrific elephant poaching in the ‘ivory wars’ of the Eighties more than halved Africa’s elephant population, from 1.3 million in 1979 to just over 600,000 in 1989. "
"Poachers are also ruthless and violent criminals prepared to kill those who try to stop their lucrative trade. More than 20 rangers have been killed in Kenya alone since 1990, the year after the ivory ban was introduced. "
"The increase in poaching is reflected in a record number of ivory seizures. There were more than 2,000 hauls between 2007 and 2009, according to the Elephant Trade Information System. Most of the ivory is on its way to China. "
"Last month, customs officers in Thailand seized a record two tons of China-bound ivory – 239 tusks – in crates labelled ‘mobile phone parts’. "
No one out there can justify cutting off the face on of elephant & leaving him to die while his tusks are sold for big money. Who decided that they had to right to take this elephant’s life & make money out of it? Who decided that elephants were only significant because of their ivory tusks? Who fucking decided that humans need ivory figurines collecting dust on their stupid fucking coffee table?
This is really necessary isn't it?
These poachers aren't killing for food, they aren't utilizing the rest of the bodies, they take what they want & leave.
- September 5, 2011 - The Royal Malaysian Customs seized two containers filled with 695 elephant tusks. The shipment was labeled “recycled craft plastic,” originated in Tanzania and was destined for China. The tusks, weighing close to 4,500 pounds, were packed in gunny sacks and hidden under the plastic material.
- August 29, 2011 - Customs officers in Hong Kong reported the seizure of 794 pieces of ivory tusks weighing almost 4,000 pounds, concealed inside a shipping container that arrived from Malaysia. The consignment was declared as “non-ferrous products for factory use,” but contained African elephant ivory concealed under stones.
- August 26, 2011 - Police on the island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania, seized 1,041 elephant tusks hidden in a shipment heading for Malaysia. The ivory was hidden in a container of anchovies to attempt to discourage investigation with its strong smell. The seizure could represent a minimum of 500 dead elephants. "
The illicit trade is rising again. It is extremely important to be aware of this horrible activity & do everything in your power to spread the word. Never support illegal ivory trade or trafficking.
Humans are nature, we are here to exist & coincide with the planet, the resources & wildlife. We do not have the right to destroy another species or devastate the resources.
"The body he found was strewn with mud, leaves and twigs, tossed there by other elephants who had tried to cover up their friend; this is how elephants mourn their dead. " - BornFree

if i could kill...
500 Dogs Seized - Quebec
I wasn't aware but apparently Quebec has a pretty bad reputation when it comes to animal cruelty; they have even been referred to as the Puppy Mill Capital of North America! Thats a hefty title; but not one to be proud of. This shit is happening all over the world, though it is relatively unnoticed & ignored. We bros & hoes need to adopt animals from shelters or save them from evil whenever possble. Don't be supportin' some scumbag puppy mill piece of shit asshole. Call the fuckin' cops on those shitheads & take all the lil guys home with ya!

pollution in the mind
children starving, animals slaughtered, wetlands destroyed... the list goes on & on & on
so many things go unnoticed, ignored by people, people too busy, too caught up in they're own lives,
too busy to care about anyone but themselves
there are many out there, those who care about world issues, those who care about human & animal welfare, those who cry over lost friendships & go out of their way to help out
those who want to make a difference, go the extra fucking mile to save a life, be a better person, be healthy & happy
..and there are those who breathe in black smoke, our their nose & mouth; thick like ice. they don't care about others, they do not care about the world, the planet, the wonders of the universe
it's time to clear those lungs, it's time to get over it
stop lying, stop cheating, stop holding a grudge, stop the gossip & stop the negative
you cant take back or change mistakes, but you must move on & accept that the world will move on without you, the lies & cries can't be heard, your problems are not big enough to compare with the universe
i'm trying, we should all try, make amends

sour diesel
In my eyes, it was all the same. Give me the green, I don't care what you call it. Blue Sky, Banana Split, Golden Leaf, Potato Salad, it didn't matter..until now. The most recent batch we received had the strong scent of diesel fuel with a hint of citrus fresh Mr. Clean; we smoked it anyway.
Who would have thought that this bizarre mixture of fragrance would bring me to new heights, new thoughts, new laughter, & new beginnings? Next time, pay close attention to what your potner mumbles about the bud brand.

bat crisis
brown bat with white-nose syndrome :-(
Since 2008, groups of small brown bats have been turning up with white fungus covering their nose, wings and ears. White nose syndrome has been responsible for taking out small bat populations in Europe and many of the North American States; but now the disease has been discovered in a few Canadian Provinces. Poor guys...

counting down

The days are certainly numbered, rain clouds rumble, my socks are always wet & I find umbrellas to be strangely attractive & delightful. Even when the sky isn’t pouring water, the fog is thick enough to drench my hair & jeans. My wool sweater has become a necessity for afternoon & evening wanders.
Perhaps it’s a weird time to address the fact that snow banks will soon close in on me; but I don’t seem to be as saddened over summer’s upcoming conclusion. Cold winter days usually mean less adventuring outside but the confines of four walls & the dry indoor air means more time for creativity, static hair & lots of tea. The last days of summer indicate the approaching cold weather, a new year on the horizon, a busy spring season of work & finally my chance to break free from the fog town & begin the voyage. I’ve spent the last 16 years of my life between a plastic chair & metal desk, not much room to expand my mind, but plenty of time to experience anxiety to the fullest.
I explored every corner of this land; the seaside, rocky beaches & forest trails will always have a place in my heart; but I’m anxious to visit the rest of this planet...& hopefully other parts of our solar system... or perhaps another galaxy!! Until then, I’ll hang tight under my umbrella & count down the days pending our “Journey to the West”.
R.I.P Jack; the Titanic (Canada) will sink without you...
